Friday, August 29, 2014: 8/29 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

It was nice to get back out after a windy week!

A few boats fished yesterday and had great fishing. Today was not as good as yesterday but still not bad. Most everybody got some dolphin, some guys did pretty good. We found a pretty good school of fish but it was hard to keep them biting with just one guy. Still, EJ and Mikey managed to boat a dozen before they lost interest (the fish). There were a few wahoo bites around the fleet and EJ landed a citation 41 pounder, out of two bites. All in all a great day!

Saturday, August 23, 2014: 8/23 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

My old friends Butch and Becky came to see me today, after what seemed like forever!

I think today is the last day of the "calm stretch". We have enjoyed some beautiful weather this month for the most part.
Our day started out a little bittersweet. Our first bite was a blue marlin but he broke the leader while he was jumping. Bummer. After that, things were a little slow all over. We had three wahoo bites all day and landed one of them. Near the end I stumbled on a school of bailer dolphin and managed to box a few of them as well. Thanks for a great day offshore guys, can't wait to see you again!

Friday, August 22, 2014: No Pressure

It was another beautiful day offshore, and whenever Doug fishes, all we hear is laughter all day, regardless of what we're catching or not catching!

Our batting average straightened back out today as we were 5 for 9 on the wahoos. Brian caught his first wahoo today so congrats to him. We caught a couple of gaffer dolphin in the morning but the finale came at the very end (where a finale belongs) when we got wrapped up with sailfish and managed to switch two off to dink baits. Doug caught one and Dave got one...on his birthday no less! Thanks for another great day Doug!

Thursday, August 21, 2014: 8/21 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

We enjoyed another beautiful day offshore, and had pretty good action as well!

I was satisfied with the area I chose to fish in, and with the number of strikes that we had, but today the odds weren't in our favor. We went 2 for 10 on wahoos, but our number one mission was accomplished and that was for Tyler to catch his first wahoo. We also found a school of dolphin and bailed a dozen of them as well. Thanks for a great day Jason!

Wednesday, August 20, 2014: 8/20 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

Lisa, you've gotta forgive me. My mind went blank and I couldn't think of a catchy title for the report, but it wasn't because the gang didn't have fun!

These guys REALLY wanted to find some bailers, so I trolled off in the deep, and found what I had hoped for, lots of big patches of grass. Unfortunately, I found them before the dolphin did because we didn't have any action. It sounded like the wahoos were biting back inshore so I shallowed up and went to work. We did a pretty good job of catching up, and landed five for the afternoon, plus a dolphin. Pretty good table fare and a lot of fun to catch! Thanks guys!

Tuesday, August 19, 2014: Quick Trip

The weather wasn't bad today but a couple of my guys still felt a little under the weather.

I'm not sure that we fished an hour before they decided to throw in the towel. It was too bad because we caught two wahoos and a couple of dolphin in the short time that we fished. Still, they wound up with plenty of fresh fish to enjoy this week on vacation! Thanks again John

Monday, August 18, 2014: No Waders Needed

Little bit of an inside joke in the title, but seriously, the weather was perfect again today and the fishing was good too.

Mike and Kevin had never been offshore with me until today. We threw them right in to the fire first thing with a "one stop shopping" experience with the bailers. These guys did great and Mike commented that we had a limit of dolphin before he normally gets anything done in a day! We trolled offshore to look for a marlin but didn't have any luck in the deep. We did catch two out of four wahoo bites while we were trolling off and back in. Thanks guys...enjoy the fish!

Saturday, August 16, 2014: Getting Warmer!

...the fishing that is!

There were patches of grass everywhere today, and scattered grass in between. It was hard work keeping baits clear but we pounded it out and put together a great catch of nice dolphin and one out of two wahoos. The highlight of the day was a flatline blue marlin bite. Mikey got the dink bait away from the 300 pounder and I got the shot at him on a long rigger. He put on a beautiful show and James did a great job of angling the fish to the boat for the release. Thanks guys!

Friday, August 15, 2014: Another Family Day!

I had a great time watching these kids catch dolphin and wahoo today!

It was slick calm, so there wasn't much that could mess the day up, but good fishing helps make it better! I somehow wound up east of the fleet, and the southern boats had better dolphin fishing, but we still caught twenty, mostly big bailers and a couple of small gaffers. We also landed three out of four wahoos again today. Thanks Dan for spending a wonderful day offshore with us!

Thursday, August 14, 2014: 8/14 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

Today was pretty similar to yesterday except for a cool north breeze. Pretty nice for August!

We piddled with a couple schools of bailers this morning, till my guys said they had enough. After that we trolled for "whatever", which wound up being three out of four wahoos and a king mackerel. They had some stuff to do back on shore so I got an early dismissal around 12:30. Thanks Rick, see you guys next time!
