Thursday, May 21, 2015: Southeaster

The marlin bite was on again today, although we didn't get an invitation.

The southeast winds made the grass difficult to fish for dolphin, but we still landed a handful of nice gaffers while we waited for the blue marlin that never showed up. Thanks Chris for another great day!

Wednesday, May 20, 2015: Monkey Off

It's always a great feeling get your first blue marlin of the year out of the way...and on to number two!

Our day started out with two wahoos, the we missed the next four. Conditions sounded great offshore so we moved out a little deeper where we got jumped by a 350 pound blue marlin. Tom did a great job angling the fish to the boat after a great show. The grass was pretty scattered in the deep, and some guys found floats and did well with the dolphin. We caught five gaffers to go with the wahoos and marlin memories. Thanks Roger!

Monday, May 18, 2015: Split Day

Woody and the guys wanted to split the day up, so we fished a few hours offshore and then back in to look for some cobia.

Things started out pretty slow offshore, We missed a few dolphin bites and lost a wahoo before jogging back in to the beach. We spotted several cobias, hooked three and landed two. The guys were happy to try something different from yesterday and all enjoyed spotting the fish! Thanks Woody.

Sunday, May 17, 2015: 5/17 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

We're in the middle of another "pretty weather stretch"...and I'm liking it!

The blue marlin bite was better today than yesterday, but my group showed no interest in a big bite. Dolphin fishing was a little more "scattered" today but we stuck with it and put together a nice catch of gaffers. See you guys in the morning!

Saturday, May 16, 2015: Day In The Deep

We couldn't have asked for a better day. Slick calm and great fishing!

I had hoped to find a few dolphin early and spend the rest of the day looking for a blue marlin. Thanks to my ol' buddy Finn, who found and handed off a float loaded with gaffers, we got the first part done. The marlin bite was on, and with all the boats fishing on the last day of the tournament, there was plenty of action. We got a tug out of a mystery bite, and later had a blue marlin try both long riggers, but no hook up. Plenty of action around the fleet though. Thanks guys, see you again soon!

Friday, May 15, 2015: 5/15 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

The seas calmed down a bit for today. Overall, the meat fishing was a little slower than it has been but the marlin made a showing!

We've been so spoiled this spring that we find ourselves complaining about a handful of nice gaffer dolphin on a pretty day! Not a ton of bites but the ones we got were nice, plus a 30 pound snowy grouper off the bottom. The fleet that was fishing in the Hatteras Village Marlin Tournament released ten blues today, so it's great to hear about that action heating up. Thanks Barney!

Thursday, May 14, 2015: Day Two

The sea conditions were a little better than yesterday, and fishing was still great!

The gaffer dolphin fishing was plenty good and we caught four 30 pound yellowfins as well. Glad you guys have a big family to eat all that fish! See you in August Howard.

Wednesday, May 13, 2015: Back...After Ana

We were all antsy to get back out after a stretch of bad weather.

My buddy Howard and his gang had a good day of gaffer dolphin fishing, even with the challenging sea conditions. There were a few yellowfins caught but I got an early dismissal before we hooked one. See you guys in the morning for round two!

Wednesday, May 6, 2015: Family And Friends

Today my friends Keith and Dave invited my dad to join them on their adventure!

Gaffer dolphin fishing was great, and after an hour or so I pulled away from the edge and skipped baits. I was hoping for a blue marlin bite but had to settle for a 42 pound wahoo. Thanks Keith for another great day offshore!

Tuesday, May 5, 2015: 5/5 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

It was a beautiful today as I had expected. I went south in hopes of some gaffers and a big bite.

The water and conditions were fine but I was surprised that we didn't have any more action than we did. I spent most of the day over the hundred, and scrapped out a handful of gaffers, but never saw a marlin. We did make a quick drop for a grouper too! Pretty good blackfin action to the east. Thanks Justin!
