Tuesday, March 10, 2015: Different Scenery

My guys today said that they didn't care what we fished for, just wanted to catch some fish!

I felt like changing it up a little, and rolled the dice on the current being less to the south. I was wrong about the current, but we managed to get a nice catch of bottom fish in spite of the 3+ knots of tide. We caught our limit of six golden tiles and a snowy grouper before trying for some grey tiles. By then the current was close to 4 knots and virtually impossible to fish. We did catch a half dozen before putting out a few ballyhoo. We found a wayward dolphin on the troll before heading in. Thanks guys!

Saturday, March 7, 2015: Wicked Bubba

My good friend Lance finally hit it right. He;s been wanting to land a giant and finally got his shot today.

There were a lot of fish but not a ton of bites. We were fortunate to land the one bite we had, an 88 incher. Great job Bubba!

Saturday, February 21, 2015: The Ice Didn't Hold Us Back!

We had to break through ice to get out of the harbor, and through the channel, but the fishing was great and we managed to "sneak one in".

The sharks were so bad today that we never even came close to getting a blackfin to the boat, so after loosing a bunch of jigs we went trolling. It worked. Plenty of action and a huge class of fish. We weighed the five biggest ones so each of the guys had a citation, but most of the ones we caught today would have made the 20+ mark. Andrew caught the biggest at 37 pounds, followed by Mike's 31 pounder. Besides the great fishing, the scenery was cool today as well. Between the frozen sound and the steam fog when we hit the hot water, there was plenty of cool stuff to check out. Thanks Mike, see you in April!

Sunday, January 11, 2015: Blackfins On The Jigs

Taylor called me yesterday morning and said they wanted to take advantage of the "weather window", so we went blackfin jigging!

It was plenty good enough to fish but the 5 mph NE winds that were predicted were really closer to 20 all day. That, coupled with 4 ½ knots of current and an overabundance of sharks made landing tunas a challenge. We sacrificed a lot of jigs and fish but still wound up with a nice catch of 10-20 pound blackfins. Thanks guys, can't wait to see the video!

Monday, December 15, 2014: 12/15 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

My buddy Emmet drove down last night for some blackfin action, but they were scarce today.

The weather was perfect but I couldn't find a tuna. After lunch we decided to jog inshore, break out the TLDs and try dead baiting some kings. It was happening. For an hour and a half we had fish skying on baits and screaming off drag. Lotta fun, and not a bad "fall back" plan! Thanks Emmet!

Friday, December 5, 2014: Another Big Day With Bubbah

Two of us had charters today and went tuna fishing. It was excellent.

We caught a box full of blackfin tuna and a 40 pound wahoo by 11:30. We trolled offshore hoping to find some yellowfin, we did hook one but he got eaten by a shark before we landed him. OUTSTANDING fishing, PLUS the guys that live baited did great on the kings. Thanks Lance!

Thursday, December 4, 2014: Fishing Update From The Last Week

Computer issues prevented me from posting the last couple of days we fished, but fishing has been great.

Last weekend my buddy Greg brought his family out for a great day of live bait kingfishing. Non-stop action. We commercial king mackerel fished the last two days and wound up with 1400 pounds. I think we are gonna go tuna fishing tomorrow, or so says Bubbah!

Saturday, November 22, 2014: 11/22 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

We had another pretty day offshore, and great live bait action again!

Lots of bites and lots of fish. Steve landed our only citation king, a 34 pounder, but we had plenty of nice ones that were just shy of the 30# mark. Thanks again Adam!

Sunday, November 16, 2014: Great Kingfishing!

My guys wanted to catch live bait this morning and try some light tackle kingfishing.

The water was cooler and not quite as pretty as it has been, but the action was still great. First bite of the day was a citation 21 pound blackfin tuna, and after that it was all kings. We had a lot of "skyrocket" bites and everybody got to enjoy seeing big fish explode on flatlines and short baits. Hopefully the drum will bite as good for you guys this evening. Thanks Mike!

Saturday, November 8, 2014: 11/8 Hatteras Offshore Fishing Report

Today we were after tuna, but wound up kinda stuck in the middle.

The boats that stayed closer to home had good catches of king mackerel on live bait, dolphin and a wahoo or two. We headed east to find tuna. The current was screaming and the fish weren't cooperative. A few boats fished further to the east but I decided to wait where I was and hope for a few bites. Phil caught a 50 pound yellowfin and we did land one out of a couple nice blackfins, but the bite got a little better in the afternoon for the guys that fished up. Still, we got a couple of nice fish and they owe us for next time. Thanks Mark!
