Born & raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, I, like many others, had a love of the beach. As a child, I spent many summer vacations on Long Beach Island, NJ. That time brings back fond memories of the beach, sailing and fishing.
Alas, I had to grow up and become a responsible adult. I earned an undergraduate degree in Sociology from Keuka College located on Keuka Lake in upstate New York. A beautiful location, but too darn cold! I married my high school sweetheart (23 years & counting!) and bought a house that was 120 years old! After years of renovations, (anyone who has ever owned an old house knows exactly what I am talking about) we had it placed on the historical register.
With one project completed, another began. While working as Director of Case Management Services at our local community mental health center I attended Penn State University. There I earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration.
During our renovation and schooling period we always made time for a vacation. And where did we spend our free time? On the Outer Banks, of course! One week would turn into two, the tent became a pop-up, and there were numerous discussions on how Hatteras Island would be a wonderful place to live.
Now, what did I do with that Masters Degree, you ask? I turned it in for an apron and a new pair of sneakers! You guessed it!!! We sold everything we owned, bought a house in Avon and moved! I waited tables at a local restaurant while my husband established his business. We became involved with the local community, contributing time and energy to the Avon Volunteer Fire Department and Outer Banks Hotline.
In 1992 I became concerned that my brain was turning to mush. Friends had been nagging me for years about how I should go to school and get my real estate license. More school, never! (Well, never say never!) I went to school, got my license and began to work at Outer Beaches Realty. 10+ years and still at it! Sure there are highs and lows, but that's life! I have the opportunity to meet new people (many who have become friends), advocate for my clients (a passion from my past) and sell castles in the sand!

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan a long, long time ago. I was never much of a city boy, so at 18 years old I moved to a small town in north central Pennsylvania where my parents called home. Thirty years later, I retired from being Vice President/Operations Manager of the largest independent Automatic Food Service business in the state. After many years of hard work, I realized that there was more to life and shucked the fast lane for a simpler one.
Over the next 25 years on Hatteras Island I created just what I left behind by starting my own real estate sales, management, construction and development company. Eight years ago (and for the last time), I simplified my life once again and came to Outer Beaches Realty. I teamed up with another agent in the Hatteras Office, Dottie Reed. By constantly striving to provide ultimate service, we are now a very successful and respected sales team that helps buyers and sellers fulfill their desires.
My wife, Shirley, and I enjoy traveling in our RV during the winter and riding our bikes. I also fish every chance I get and am still hoping to catch that prize Pompano.
You can find me chilling out in the Hatteras Office with my flops on (or maybe even barefooted), selling million dollar properties. I now realize the true philosophy for living:
"When we finally learn what most of life is all about ... Most of it's gone."

I grew up in Troy, New York, an area of upstate NY adjacent to the Adirondack mountains. It was there that I first developed an interest in windsurfing and the outdoors in general.
In the mid-1970's I moved to the San Francisco, California area and resided there until the early 80's. I then moved back to the upstate NY region and pursued a business career in that area.
A logical step in my windsurfing avocation was to make a windsurfing safari trip to Hatteras Island in the early 80's. The bug bit me and several windsurfing trips to Avon each year became my normal pattern.
In the 90's, my wife and I acquired a rental cottage in Avon and made plans to move to the island. Once our family had grown and was off pursuing their own desires the time was at hand to make the official move. My wife currently manages a retail store in Hatteras Village and I became involved in real estate. We have never second-guessed our decision to move to the island.
I believe my experience as an out-of-state owner of a rental cottage gives me a different perspective when dealing with potential buyers. When dealing with current owners I think my experience allows me to adopt a different vantage point when discussing their needs and desires.
My association with Outer Beaches Realty started as an owner and has progressed to that of a REALTOR associate. I was born and raised in Philadelphia - not as long ago as my partner Jack Kepler, but long enough.
I first visited Hatteras Island during a vacation on the Outer Banks over 20 years ago. On my way home I dreamed of the kind of house I would build when I moved to Hatteras. Eight years later I was sitting on my new sound front deck enjoying a gorgeous sunset with new neighbors.
My boxes from the move were not yet unpacked when I began working at Outer Beaches Realty. I started as a Cottage Coordinator and shortly thereafter became the Housekeeping Manager. I then moved on to a newly created position of Special Projects Coordinator. In this position I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience about property management in a resort area. Outer Beaches became my second home and I began to look for a new challenge within the company. Moving into sales was natural!
I worked with one of my colleagues to open our third office, located in Hatteras, in 1995. A few months later I attained my sales license and I have been selling real estate ever since. Working with buyers and sellers has been extremely rewarding and challenging, which is a perfect fit for me. I continued my education and received both my Broker's license and a Recreation and Resort Specialist certification.

I first visited Hatteras Island eleven years ago while dating my husband. We immediately knew that we wanted to grow old together here. Several years ago, we built our first rental property in Avon. We thought that would scratch our itch to be here, but sparked us to move here instead. We packed up the kids and the dog and moved to Hatteras to live our dream.
I grew up in a family of real estate professionals in Wilmington, North Carolina and have spent most of my life "at the beach." My career began fifteen years ago after moving to Raleigh as a Real Estate Appraiser, and eventually expanded into sales. I am currently a licensed NC Real Estate Broker and a NC State Certified Real Estate Appraiser.
